We’re building a brand new sports and leisure centre, a new quality food store, a new coachway park and ride and a new spine road, all with associated landscaping, at a site just off junction 4 of the M40 in High Wycombe. This will enable the creation of new jobs through subsequent office and hotel developments, turning the redevelopment into a new gateway into High Wycombe. We’ve called this site the Handy X Hub.
Construction of the new sports and leisure centre with modern, fit for purpose facilities is now underway. The current Wycombe Sports Centre will remain open while the new sports and leisure centre is being built next to it, on the site of the running track which has been relocated along with the synthetic turf pitch. The new sports and leisure centre will be completed by autumn 2015.
The facilities mix for the new centre includes:
- eight lane 50m pool
- 20m by 8m learner pool with moving floor 1.2m deep
- fun water for toddlers
- 150 station gym
- dance studio (s) and climbing wall
- 12 court sports hall
- bowls (four rink)
- two squash courts
- two party or meeting rooms
- café and vending area
The relocation of the running track and synthetic turf pitches has been fundamental to the development of the new sports and leisure centre.
A new pitch has been created at John Hampden Grammar School, which is opposite the sports centre site. The like-for-like replacement is a second generation, sand-dressed pitch, ideal for hockey use and for football. Changing room and parking facilities are provided at the school for out-of-hours public use.
The new facility at land south of the A4155 Marlow Road in Little Marlow is almost finished and will be ready for use in the summer.
We’ve created an eight lane track with parking and improved road access. We’ve also turned a building on site into changing and storage facilities and we’ve installed some clever new lighting.
